Ran across a plain 870 receiver marked wingmaster ctc. Any info if this is single shot gas model or not. It has 30 full marked 2 3/4 only with monte carlo stock.. thanks jim

Ah, wouldn't an 870 be a pump gun, not a "gas" operated semi????
Actually, there was a "gas operated" 870 . . . this was the 870 "Competition" model mentioned in a few of the previous posts. Obviously, it was still a pump gun, but it did have a "gas system" whereby gas bled off from barrel ports (just like a true semi-auto gun) was used to operate a recoil-reducing mechanism that fit inside the magazine tube. This made the gun a single-shot since the magazine could not be used as a magazine. This model was made from 1980 to 1986.

Kind of surprises me that some never heard of the 870 Competition gas model. They have been around awhile and used to be numerous. I almost bought one but ,up keep and keeping parts seemed a little tasking. I did borrow one to shoot once. I have a custom stock and recoil reducer on my 870 and can't really tell much difference in recoil from the one I have shot .

Slide Action, I had one and like you and also found the gun to be like some women I have known....High Maintenance.
I have known people who just put a regular 870 barrel w/o the gas ports to get around that but then you just have a single shot high shooting 870.
The recoil reduction also was kind of lacking IMO. I have 2 of the old steel Vari-Weight plugs in all of my 870 trap guns and they do not kick any harder than a 870 Competition.
